Q.) My age is starting to show in my eyes, is there anything that can help or prevent this aged appearance?
As we age our skin starts to sag, wrinkles emerge, and fat deposits build up. All of these symptoms show around our eyes. Luckily, cosmetic procedures such as blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), brow lift surgery, Botox®, and Dysport® may be able to help. Each of these procedures offers something different, so a consultation will help determine which procedure is most appropriate for each patient.
Q.) How do I know if I need a brow lift or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) to get rid of wrinkles and sagging skin around my eyes?
A proper consultation is the only way to determine which eyelid procedure is most appropriate for you. Generally, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is best used to remove fat, excess skin that causes wrinkles, and muscle tissue from the upper and/or lower eyelids. The brow lift (upper facelift) reduces wrinkles and furrows along the bridge of the nose and forehead by lifting and repositioning the excess skin that causes wrinkling.
Q.) What cosmetic procedure can remove the bags from under my eyes?
A lower lid blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is the most appropriate cosmetic procedure for removing bags from under the eyes caused by sagging skin or fat. Because under eye bags can be caused by a combination of factors (i.e.- genetics, environmental factors, smoking, excess fat and skin, etc.), a consultation with Dr. Burstein is the best way to ensure the best removal technique is selected.
Q.) I have wrinkles around my mouth and eyes, but I’m not quite ready for a full facelift. Are there any cosmetic procedures that will reduce and/or remove wrinkles around both my mouth and eyes other than a facelift?
There are multiple procedures that can be combined to rejuvenate the appearance of your eyes and mouth that aren’t as invasive as a traditional facelift. Blepharoplasty, as described above, prevents wrinkles and sagging around the eyes and can easily be combined with a mid or lower facelift (depending on the source of the wrinkles around your mouth). Also, depending on the extent of the wrinkles, facial filling products like Restylane®, Perlane®, and Juvederm® may be injected to fill deep wrinkles or areas of lost volume of the cheeks and lips. Additionally, Botox® and Dysport® are cosmetic injectables that can be used to relax muscles and smooth the appearance of wrinkles while preventing more from forming.
