Dr. Fernando Burstein is a world renowned plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in aesthetic surgery of the face. A leader in the field, Dr. Burstein has extensive experience with the latest techniques in cosmetic surgery including advanced rhinoplasty (surgery of the nose), dermal fat grating, eyelid surgery and facelift techniques. Among his peers in the medical field, Dr. Burstein has earned a reputation for not only his outstanding surgical skills and training, but also for his interest in his patient's complete medical well being.
Besides his expertise in aesthetic surgery, Dr. Burstein also trained in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and received a degree in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Yale University in 1988. He went on to complete an advanced fellowship in Craniofacial Surgery at UCLA before joining the team at Atlanta Plastic Surgery P.C. in 1989. He served as Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite from 1991 to 2001 and has been the director of the Center for Craniofacial Disorders at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta since 1989.
Dr. Burstein has received numerous awards, including recognition in Atlanta magazine as a “Top Doctor in the Atlanta Area” on multiple occasions and recognition as one of the top physicians in America in fall 2008. He has published over 100 articles and book chapters covering many facial plastic and reconstructive surgery topics and holds an academic appointment at Emory University as a clinical professor. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and served as president of the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2006. Dr. Burstein is active in the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Burstein has been with Atlanta Plastic Surgery since the late 80’s. In addition, he is currently on the staff at Northside Hospital and at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. Dr. Burstein is dedicated to teaching young surgeons and using his skills to help others.
Dr. Burstein is a native of Santiago, Chile. He currently lives in Atlanta with his wife, Dr. Kathleen Johnson, and his two children. He enjoys traveling with his family and many outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain climbing and cycling.
