Face Lift at Atlanta Plastic Surgery

As a person advances in age, the effects are typically seen most prominently on the face in the form of wrinkles, fine lines, furrows, and the sagging of the chin and jowls. For the ultimate facial rejuvenation and the most dramatic results, a traditional facelift procedure, or a rhytidectomy, is recommended. A full facelift procedure involves the removal of excess fat and skin, the tightening of underlying muscles, and the redraping of the skin around your face and neck to give your face a tighter, more youthful look.

Candidates for a facelift at Atlanta Plastic Surgery include men and women whose faces and necks have begun to sag due to advancing age and who are typically 40 years of age or older.

The procedure involves tiny incisions, usually above the hairline at the temples, behind the earlobe, or near the lower scalp. If the neck needs tightening, a small incision may also be made under the chin. Facial skin is then lifted, fat may be trimmed or suctioned, underlying muscle and membranes are tightened and lifted, and the excess skin is removed. During the procedure, fat is sculpted or redistributed from the face, jowls and neck, and the underlying tissue is repositioned.

The full facelift described above is recommended for people who wish for dramatic results to treat the signs of aging in the neck, lower face, and cheeks. Aging changes of the eyes and brow must be treated by a separate procedure, either eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or brow/forehead lift, which is most often performed in conjunction with the facelift.

Mid-Facelift at Atlanta Plastic Surgery

A mid-facelift is an alternate procedure, similar to a traditional, full facelift, but is designed to pinpoint areas of the mid face. Mid-facelifts are done endoscopically, with tiny incisions made in the eyelids, mouth, or hairline – depending on the area of the face that need excess fat and skin removed. During this procedure, the fat pads on your cheeks are lifted and repositioned over the cheekbones and excess fat is removed under the eyes to reduce puffiness. Mid-facelifts are often performed in conjunction with lower-lid blepharoplasty to rejuvenate the area around the eyes or with facial implants to accentuate the natural contours of the face.

Upper Facelift at Atlanta Plastic Surgery

The upper facelift is another variation of the traditional facelift, but pinpoints areas of the upper face, like the eyes, brows, and forehead. An upper facelift, similar to a brow lift, endoscopic brow lift, or forehead lift can be performed two basic ways – the plastic surgeon making incisions at several places in the hair line or endoscopically (using a tiny camera probe to look beneath the skin). In both methods, excess fat is removed from around the eyes, and the skin is lifted and tightened upward. The upper facelift gives the area around the eyes a more youthful and alert look.

Lower Facelift at Atlanta Plastic Surgery

As the name implies, the lower facelift tightens and rejuvenates the lower part of the face. During the procedure, an incision is either made around the ear, or the plastic surgeon enters endoscopically, in order to remove the excess fat. The muscles are then tightened and the skin repositioned, trimmed, and smoothed out. Usually a neck lift is performed at the same time as the lower face lift to remove the extra skin or “double chin” commonly found in patients. Those patients with drooping skin around the jawline and/or sagging corners of the mouth as well as a neck with excess skin are ideal candidates for lower facelift surgery.
