Facial Contouring - Facial Implants at Atlanta Plastic Surgery

Facial contouring changes the basic structure of your face to create a more attractive, harmonious balance among your features. Common areas of facial contouring include:

  • Cheeks: Cheek implants are designed specifically for a patient’s desired look and inserted into the depleted, sunken in, or flat areas of face to give the cheeks a rounder, lifted, or more youthful look.

  • Chin: The chin implant is surgically inserted into the chin to create a more proportionate look to the nose and forehead. Chin implants are recommended for patients with recessed chins, to make that area project more on the face. For patients with overly prominent chins, reduction surgery is recommended to reshape the bone and tissue for a smaller chin. Chin contouring surgery is sometime performed in conjunction with rhinoplasty surgery to give the face a more proportioned and harmonious overall look.

  • Jaw: For patients who wish to increase the size of the lower area of their face, by giving their jaw a more angular and masculine look, jaw implants may be recommended. Similar to chin contouring, the jaw can also be reshaped to look smaller if a patient feels their jaw is too prominent.
Most candidates are younger people interested in a fundamental change in the shape and balance of their face, such as achieving a wider and stronger jaw line, higher cheekbones, a fuller face, or added length and projection to a small chin.

Facial contouring with facial implants involves the incision and insertion of an artificial implant to reshape areas of the face. Implant shape and size are specifically designed for a patient’s desired facial structure. Using chin implant surgery as an example, incisions are made either inside the lower lip or externally, in the skin under your chin. The skin is lifted off the chinbone to make a pocket large enough for a carefully styled implant. The surgeon will then place the implant in the pocket and stitch it into place. In some cases, the bones of the face are cut and moved to lengthen the chin and add projection.

For patients who wish for a reduction in the look of their chin or jaw, a surgeon can reshape a patient’s bone structure to create a less prominent look.
