Laser Hair Removal

Atlanta Plastic Surgery's Medical Spa, AYA, uses two different laser hair removal procedures, the Aurora System and the Candela System. The type of laser hair removal procedure choosen for you will depending on your hair type and skin color.

The Aurora System

The Aurora System uses gentle light and electric pulses of energy, reaching into the hair follicles that lie beneath the skin and damaging the hair follicle. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin. This process disables the follicle from growing hair, which means that gradually over several treatments, there is a permanent reduction in the amount of hair in that area.

Treatment is very safe for the skin. There are many advances in the Aurora technology that make it one of the safest hair removal systems available for all skin colors. There are no long term health hazards from light or electric energies used in the Aurora. Both have been used for decades in medicine, surgery, and aesthetics without adversity.

Each Aurora treatment will result in less hair coming back, as well as hair growing progressively lighter in color, finer, and slower-growing with each treatment. Treatments are done every four weeks for a total of 8 treatments for facial hair, and every six weeks for a total of 8 treatments for body hair. Lighter colored hair may require more treatments than darker hair.

Anyone who wants a permanent solution to shaving, waxing, plucking, or electrolysis should consider Aurora hair removal. There are a few medical conditions that contraindicate people from treatment which will be discussed with your Aurora clinician.

The Candela System

The Candela emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle where it is absorbed. The laser energy is transformed into heat, which destroys the hair follicle leaving the surrounding skin unaffected. The skin is further protected during treatment by a Dynamic Cooling Device where cryogen is sprayed onto the skin cooling the upper layers and providing patients with increased comfort.

The sensation is often described as a "snapping" feeling. The sensation only lasts for a fraction of a second. Treatment is very safe for the skin. Lasers have been used for many years for a variety of medical cosmetic procedures including treatment of facial and leg veins, age spots and rejuvenating the skin on the face.

Each Candela treatment will result in less hair coming back, as well as hair growing progressively lighter in color, finer, and slower-growing with each treatment. Treatments are done every four weeks for a total of 8 treatments for facial hair, and every six weeks for a total of 8 treatments for body hair.

Anyone who wants a permanent solution to shaving, waxing, plucking, or electrolysis should consider the Candela Hair Removal System.
