Laser Resurfacing
Laser Resurfacing is a procedure used mostly to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the mouth and eyes. Using laser technology, skin resurfacing can also be used to minimize and smooth out facial blemishes, bumpy skin texture, and acne scarring. Laser Resurfacing is increasing in popularity because it is less invasive than other options and can still produce appreciable results.
Candidates for laser resurfacing include men and women of all ages – ideally with fair, healthy, non-oily skin. It is recommended for patients who are unhappy with fine lines and wrinkles, scarring (either raised injury scars or acne scars), bumpy skin texture, and uneven pigmentation. Laser Resurfacing is usually not recommended for patients with dark, oily skin or those who are currently battling acne.
The surgeons at Atlanta Plastic Surgery use a carbon dioxide laser to remove areas of sun-damaged or wrinkled skin. The CO2 laser works by emitting short pulses of light energy or continuous light beams delivered in a pattern to remove thin layers of skin, layer by layer, until the surgeon reaches a level that will make the wrinkle or scar less visible. Emolliants are used to keep the tissues moist until new skin grows.
Laser resurfacing has the advantages of precision, minimal bleeding, and less post-operative discomfort over other wrinkle removing alternatives. Laser resurfacing treatments result in a smoother, tighter look on the surface of the skin.
