Cosmetic Eyelid – Brow – Midface Surgery

Aging changes in the eyelid, midface and forehead area can cause a ”sad appearance” whether it be from chronologic age or simply a tendency that runs in families. These changes can be greatly improved – “turn back the clock” – with a variety of very safe and effective surgical techniques, many of which Dr. McCord has pioneered. Puffy or droopy upper and lower eyelids, looseness of the eyebrow and folding of skin around the eyes can be greatly helped by blepharoplasty techniques. For drooping of the eyebrows or looseness in the forehead area, a number of very safe and effective techniques are available for “lifts”. For patients who have looseness and folding because of descent of the midface, a midface lift sometimes known as “cheek lift” can restore youthfulness and fullness to the midface. Dr. McCord was a developer of midface lift surgery. In patients who want “full face” enhancement, in the area around the mouth and lower face, Dr. McCord collaborates with his partners and associates at Atlanta plastic surgery who are skilled with lower face lifts and can work with Dr. McCord at the same surgical session. Enhancement around the mouth and lips, which are resistant to surgical correction, can be obtained with precise injections of fillers (Juvederm, Restylane or other agents).

Reparative Surgery for Bad Results or Complications caused by Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery

In spite of the best intentions, complications may occur with any eyelid surgery. It is particularly distressing for a patient who undergoes cosmetic eyelid or facial surgery, in order to have an improvement in their appearance, have complications occur or have a result that is less than desirable. Over the years, Dr. McCord has been the recipient of many of these patients from all over the US, and the world, and has been able to help them. Bad results may vary from simply a poor cosmetic result because of ineffective surgery or from unavoidable complications such as a postoperative infection. Common problems seen by Dr. McCord have been pulling down and scarring of the lower eyelids (retraction-ectropion), an inability to close the eyelids (Lagophthalmos), an abnormal shape of the eye fissures, droopy upper lids or ptosis of the upper eyelids. Many patients have poor results from omission of a certain needed procedure, such as an eye brow lift, that may have prevented excessive upper lid heaviness.
With patients who are having cosmetic surgery for the first time, Dr. McCord strives to provide them with the best possible improvement but always wants to maintain a “natural” look postoperatively. He clearly recognizes the fact that many people want improvement but “don’t want look like someone else” and don’t want to look “overdone”. Dr. McCord will be glad to tailor his surgery to your needs.
For patients who are undergoing reparative surgery because of problems from previous surgery, Dr. McCord wants to get the best possible result for them with the least amount of exposure to surgery and hospitals. Because of his experience in caring for so many patients who have had “bad eyelid surgery”, he is well equipped to address their emotional needs and the large variety of complicated eyelid problems they might have.
Above all, because of his training as an ophthalmologist, he always tailors his surgery to be “safe” with regards to the health of the eye and to prevent any conditions that may threaten the eye postoperatively.
Oculoplastic Patients are seen at out Atlanta, Northside/Sandy Springs location. Surgeries are conducted at Piedmont and Northside Hospitals.
