Plastic surgery is more popular than ever before in the US. This is true for people of all ages. In the past there was a belief that cosmetic surgery procedures were only intended to help a specific niche of middle-aged patients, but industry statistics tell us that this simply is not the case. While patients from certain age groups may be more interested in some procedures than others, plastic surgery patients of all ages are united in their quest for the amazing aesthetic results that cosmetic surgery can provide. While trends in plastic surgery are subject to change, these are currently the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures by age group based on recent statistics collected by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
Most Popular Procedures Among 19-34 Year Old Patients
The most commonly-performed plastic surgery procedure for patients in this age group was breast augmentation. Patients between the ages of 19 and 34 underwent over 156,000 breast augmentations in the US last year, accounting for nearly 47% of all breast augmentation procedures. The second and third most popular surgeries for this age range were liposuction and tummy tucks, respectively.
Most Popular Procedures Among 35-50 Year Old Patients
Patients between 35-50 underwent over 140,000 liposuction procedures last year, by far the most of any age group. Breast augmentation and tummy tucks were the next most popular among this group. It’s common for patients in this age range to combine liposuction with a tummy tuck and a cosmetic breast surgery as part of a mommy makeover.
Most Popular Procedures Among 51-64 Year Old Patients
As we focus more on slightly older patients, we see a shift in what procedures are the most in-demand. While liposuction is still extremely popular among patients between 51-64, procedures for the face like eyelid surgery (68,675) and facelifts (46,364) suddenly become far more common. This makes sense as these procedures are ideal for patients who wish to refresh the appearance of their face by treating tired eyes, sagging skin, and other noticeable signs of aging.
