Many of my patients seek cosmetic procedures to eliminate stubborn, unwanted fat or to reduce the signs of aging. At my practice, Atlanta Plastic Surgery, P.C., I offer the latest liposuction treatments to safely remove small pockets of fat that are diet and exercise resistant. Over the years, liposuction methods have evolved in patient safety and surgical efficiency to produce optimal cosmetic surgery results for my patients.
Liposuction was first practiced in the United States during the 1980s and according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), more than 14.6 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures were performed in 2012 with liposuction as one of the top five surgical procedures performed. Liposuction is performed by making small incisions into the body and a thin hollow tube, also known as a cannula, acts like a controlled suctioning tool to loosen the excess fat and can be used on the abdomen, thighs, chin, and other areas you wish to treat.
Liposuction can be performed through various techniques. I perform SlimLipo™ for my body contouring patients. SlimLipo™ uses dual laser wavelengths, by melting the fat under the skin to better allow the suctioning to remove it. The benefits of laser liposuction include minimal downtime and reduced side effects such as bruising and swelling. SlimLipo™ produces smoother contours giving you a more contoured figure and can be used to treat areas such as the abdomen, waist, thighs, back, arms, chin, and more.
I also offer fat transfer procedures which utilize liposuction to facilitate removal of unwanted fat from one area. After fat is removed, it is purified and then re-injected into other areas for natural enhancement. By using the patient’s own body fat instead of a synthetic implant, the risk of complications are significantly reduced. While these procedures provide natural enhancement, I always remind my patients that they do not substitute for weight loss.
