As medical science advances, people are living longer than ever, and as we come to understand more about exercise and nutrition, people are staying active and vital far into their later years. Ironically the very things that keep us feeling healthy and young, like engaging in active, outdoor activities, can often make our faces appear prematurely aged and worn. Fortunately there are a number of cosmetic procedures I perform, both surgical and non-surgical, that can address your concerns.
As a board certified plastic surgeon, I have seen great advancements and constant improvement and refinement in facelift techniques, which is arguably one of the reasons its popularity continues to rise. A facelift (or rhytidectomy) can correct general sagging in the mid-face, minimizing the appearance of deep creases below the lower eyelids and along the nose without drastically changing your fundamental appearance. It can also help rectify the loss of muscle tone in the lower face (which can create jowls) and the loose skin under the chin and jaw (which can make anyone of normal weight appear to have a double chin). Facelift procedures can also be performed in conjunction with a brow lift, to correct a sagging or deeply furrowed brow, or eyelid surgery to give aging eyes a revitalized appearance.
For those with more subtle signs of aging, or who are not quite ready for more comprehensive surgical procedures, there are a number of non-surgical options available. Early frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead furrows can be minimized with Botox® cosmetic injections. To restore youthful fullness to the face, dermal fillers such as Restylane® can help give lips a more plump appearance and enhance shallow contours in the cheeks, further softening facial creases and wrinkles. While their benefits are not permanent, injectables have long lasting results ranging from 4 to 18 months depending on the product you choose. An added benefit is that cosmetic injections can be safely renewed periodically to maintain optimal cosmetic results.
Additionally, I perform laser skin resurfacing for my facial rejuvenation patients of all ages. Providing two customizable lasers in one technological system, Sciton® treatments remove the thicker, uneven outer layer of skin and allow fresh, new skin rich in collagen to replace it. Sciton® is used to treat a wide range of skin conditions including acne, wrinkles, scarring, skin tone or texture imperfections, and even sun damage. With minimal downtime required, you can continue your daily routine without interruption and will experience a renewed glow with prolonged results.
