Choosing the Right Breast Implants for Your Breast Augmentation Procedure

For my breast augmentation patients, one of the biggest decisions is selecting the right breast implants for their body. At Atlanta Plastic Surgery, P.C., we provide a wide selection of breast implants that vary in types, shapes, sizes, and textures. During each consultation, I educate my patients on all of their available options and help them choose a breast implant that will meet their aesthetic goals and complement their body structure. As a board certified plastic surgeon specializing in breast surgery, I briefly explain the different implant types and shapes below in my blog.

Saline and silicone implants are elastomer shells filled with either sterile saline solution or silicone gel. Gummy bear implants are available as textured form-stable as they are made of silicone gel and do not leak if a rupture occurs. Breast implant sizes are measured by cubic centimeters (cc’s) of the implant’s fill instead of by cup sizes (A, B, etc). These types are available in round or teardrop, which impacts the physical shape of the breasts and the feel of the implant inside the breast cavity.

Smooth and textured implants are the two texture options. Smooth implants are used in the majority of breast augmentation surgeries. The other option, textured, was designed to prevent the implant from moving but may be more palpable. Since gummy bear implants are form-stable, the surface is textured to prevent the implant from moving.

To further help my patients choose the right implant for their procedure, I provide Vectra® M3 digital imaging to preview simulated cosmetic results. Through this new technology, my patients can “try on” different implants and view results from all angles. Vectra® captures three-dimensional images of your body so each simulated photo is unique to what results are most realistic for you. With Vectra®, patients can be reassured about the procedure and better understand what results to expect.
