Maintaining Facial Plastic Surgery Results with Proper Skincare

There are multiple factors that can contribute to the aging process including sun exposure, stress, diet, fatigue, and gravity, which all cause the deterioration of the suppleness of our skin. Though I perform a variety of facial cosmetic procedures including facelift, browlift, and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) to help treat these concerns, I still believe that the best way to keep skin looking youthful and healthy is to maintain a proper skin care regimen. Sufficient skin care can not only help improve your skin’s appearance and texture, but also assist with healing and scarring from facial plastic surgery.

The ABC’s of Facial AgingThe most ideal cosmetic plastic surgery results are the ones that heal without any discoloration or scarring.  Give your surgical area plenty of time to heal and, no matter how tempted you may be, avoid picking at peeling the skin or scabs.  This could increase your likelihood of infection or scarring.  In the weeks following your surgery, it is important to keep yourself hydrated, get plenty of uninterrupted rest, and most importantly, avoid excessive sun exposure as it can cause incision scars to become more prominent.  It is recommended to facial rejuvenation patients to avoid direct sunlight for the first few days following your procedure, however, if you do go out in the sun, try to cover your incisions with clothing and use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.

While surgery does not completely stop the aging process, minimally invasive facial rejuvenation and medical grade skincare products can keep skin healthy and vibrant. I provide non-invasive treatments such as BOTOX Cosmetic® which can temporarily prevent new fine lines and wrinkles from forming around and between the eyes, as well as facial fillers such as Juvéderm® XC which can alleviate the loss of facial volume.

Undergoing any cosmetic plastic surgery procedure is a major investment and my patients are always interested in making sure that investment continues to pay off.   The body is constantly growing and changing, and so the results of any plastic surgery will eventually begin to fade due to aging and environmental factors, so it is important to take the appropriate steps in order to preserve your facial rejuvenation results.
