Understanding Mommy Makeover and How to Plan for Surgery

Having children can positively change a woman’s life in many ways including busy schedules, lifetime memories and new experiences. Women often experience physical changes in their bodies including sagging breasts and excess fat and skin around the abdomen and flanks. To address these changes, I perform mommy makeover surgery to help women regain their pre-pregnancy bodies and confidence. As a mother of two and a plastic surgeon who specializes in breast and body procedures, I understand firsthand the physical changes pregnancy and breastfeeding can have on a woman’s body. I discuss the various procedures and customize mommy makeovers for each patient.

Atlanta Mommy Makeover SurgeryCommon mommy makeover procedures include breast surgery, tummy tuck, and/or liposuction. Mommy makeover surgery combines procedures to decrease the total amount of downtime and achieve the best plastic surgery results. Breast augmentation or reduction may be performed to address size and position of breasts. A breast lift may also be used to raise breasts affected by breastfeeding. Body contouring procedures enhance the midsection as liposuction and tummy tuck can re-shape the abdomen and hips.

Even though most mothers desire to have their pre-pregnancy bodies back, I understand some mothers are hesitant to pursue surgery because they are worried about complications or extended recovery time. I advise patients to wait until they are finished having children before having mommy makeover surgery as additional pregnancies can affect cosmetic surgery results.

With pressure for mothers to instantly bounce back to care giving and busy schedules, patients need time to properly recover. Mothers will need additional help for the first few days to refrain from heavy lifting or strenuous activity. Share your plan with family or friends so they will know what to expect and how to best assist you after surgery. The average downtime for a patient varies from two to four weeks depending on the procedures performed, so it is necessary to arrange for extra help at home.
