What Are the Most Common Cosmetic Surgery Procedures?

Plastic surgery has grown immensely over the last few decades. What was once considered a social taboo has become a multibillion-dollar industry that helps thousands of Americans every year. The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) recently released their industry report for 2018, so I thought this would provide an excellent opportunity to answer a question that I receive somewhat frequently from prospective patients: what are the most popular cosmetic plastic procedures in the US? I have broken down this answer by category to illustrate the most in-demand cosmetic surgery procedures for the breasts, body, and face.

Top Procedures for the Breasts

Breast augmentation surgery was not only the most commonly-performed cosmetic breast procedure, but it was the most popular of all cosmetic surgery procedures last year. Nearly 330,000 breast augmentation surgeries were performed in 2018. Breast lift surgery and breast reduction surgery (which increased by over 18%) were the next two most popular breast procedures.

Top Procedures for the Body

Always among the top procedures performed, it’s no surprise that liposuction was once again the most popular cosmetic surgery for the body (and the second most popular overall). 289,261 men and women in the US underwent liposuction last year to help remove unwanted, stubborn fat from areas all over the body. Tummy tuck surgery made a major leap in popularity, increasing nearly 12% from 2017.

Top Procedures for the Face

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) was the most common cosmetic procedure for the face. Along with tummy tuck surgery, eyelid surgery was the only procedure to be among the five most popular procedures for both men and women. This is due largely to this surgery’s reputation for providing outstanding results for patients who wish to rejuvenate the appearance of tired-looking eyes. Facelift surgery and rhinoplasty were the second and third most in-demand facial procedures, respectively.
