As a board certified plastic surgeon with nearly twenty years of experience, I have come to believe that any cosmetic or reconstructive plastic surgery procedure can benefit from a close collaboration between the patient and their doctor. When both clearly understand the patient’s goals and what the surgical procedure can realistically accomplish, the entire process can proceed more smoothly and everyone is more satisfied with the final plastic surgery results. This is why I have always made a concerted effort to facilitate this level of communication and understanding in my practice. Over the years I have had the opportunity to incorporate a number of technological advancements into my consultation process that have helped me to provide my patients with the best possible plastic surgery experience, from start to finish.
Visual Plastic Surgery Consultation Tools
One of the most popular consultation tools is the Vectra® M3 imaging system by Canfield Imaging Systems. This advanced medical imaging device uses multiple high-resolution cameras to simultaneously capture photos of the face or body from different viewpoints and then digitally compiles these photos into a high resolution three-dimensional computer image. Using this three-dimensional image, I can show my patients exactly how various changes will look on their own bodies, effectively allowing them to “try on” different plastic surgery options, such as different sizes of breast implants, in order to preview the potential results. Using the Vectra® M3 imaging system during the consultation and planning process improves the final outcome of any cosmetic plastic surgery procedure by helping me understand exactly what the patient wants while helping the patient form realistic and achievable expectations.
Intuitive Plastic Surgery Information Access
Many patients can become overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information that we can go over during a plastic surgery consultation. This is why I use TouchMD, an easy to use on-line resource that provides patients with access to all of that information at the touch of a button. While sitting with a patient in consultation, I can upload before and after plastic surgery photos, educational content or procedural videos, and even personal notes to the TouchMD software. That information is then accessible by the patient at any time from any personal computer, tablet, or mobile device using a secure network and log-in. This allows my patients to conveniently review everything they need to know about their upcoming procedure from the comfort and privacy of their own home. Giving patients easy access to information before, during, and after their surgery helps to alleviate anxiety and to ensure that the entire procedure and recovery process goes as smoothly as possible.
The decision to undergo a plastic surgery procedure can be complicated. There are many different factors to consider and a great deal of information to absorb. With these advanced consultation tools, patients can feel empowered to confidently choose which direction is right for them and help make those choices a reality.
