Fighting Facial Aging with Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

Many of us would like to look younger, but not everyone can afford to spend the time and resources that full cosmetic plastic surgery procedures may require.  Fortunately, there are several less-invasive facial rejuvenation techniques that can temporarily produce results similar to plastic surgery without requiring extended surgical recovery time.  Injectable cosmetic treatments, like Botox®, facial fillers like Juvéderm®, and laser skin resurfacing can all work to help alleviate many of the signs of facial aging and give you a younger, more vital appearance for only a fraction of the time and expense.

Fighting-Facial-Aging-with-Skin-Rejuvenation-TreatmentsMany different factors can make an individual face appear old, but among the most common are wrinkles, which can include the vertical marks that appear between the brows, the horizontal lines that form across foreheads, and the “crow’s feet” that develop around the eyes.  These lines and folds in the skin, called rhytids, are generally the result of repeated facial movements and can often be minimized or even eliminated with a neuromodulator like Botox® Cosmetic that temporarily decreases the muscle movement that causes these lines to form.  A simple fifteen-minute Botox® session can soften the appearance of facial wrinkles for an average of three to six months, giving the entire face a more youthful appearance.

The facial tissues can also gradually lose moisture and volume over time, allowing the skin to sag and giving the features a drawn and haggard appearance.  Injectable facial fillers like Juvéderm® use hyaluronic acid, a substance that exists naturally in youthful skin, to replace lost facial volume, restoring a more full and plump appearance to key regions while eliminating fine lines and wrinkles.  Other facial fillers, like Juvederm® Voluma™, Sculptra®, or Restylane®, are made up of slightly different components in varying concentrations, making them each ideal for use on separate areas of the face (like the cheeks, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, or lips) and allowing me to sculpt a result individually customized to the patient’s specific needs.  Treatment with various facial fillers can last from 6 to 18 months, depending on the specific type of filler used.

Finally, skin damage caused by years of exposure to the sun and environmental pollutants can mar the skin’s smooth surface and leave it looking dry and cracked.  The highly-advanced Sciton® laser skin resurfacing system combines ablative laser technology, which removes the dead and damaged cells on the outermost layers of the skin, with higher frequency, non-ablative lasers that pass harmlessly through the skin’s upper layers, heating the deeper layers to stimulate collagen growth and tighten underlying skin.  This unique combination of elements allows the Sciton® laser skin resurfacing system to treat a wide range of skin conditions, including scars and other skin irregularities, in patients of all ages and skin types.  Often a single skin resurfacing treatment can significantly improve the skin’s appearance while requiring only minimal recovery time.
