Philip H. Beegle Jr., M.D. - Atlanta plastic surgeon
Dr. Philip H. Beegle is considered a leading expert in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery and practices reconstructive breast and facial aesthetic surgery in Atlanta and Newnan.  A graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Phil Beegle completed his residency in general surgery at Parkland Hospital in Texas and in plastic surgery at Atlanta’s Emory University.  After joining Atlanta Plastic Surgery, P.C. in 1984, he was instrumental in the early development of the revolutionary TRAM flap technique for reconstructive breast surgery spearheaded by Atlanta Plastic Surgery co-founder Dr. Carl Hartrampf.  Dr. Beegle went on to help develop various other methods of microsurgical breast reconstruction, including the free TRAM, thigh flap, SIEA flap, and hip flap (or Rubens) techniques.  He has also traveled extensively, teaching the TRAM/free TRAM methods of breast reconstruction around the world, and was the first surgeon to ever perform the TRAM flap procedure in Europe.

Since that time, Dr. Beegle has committed his professional career to the management and treatment of breast disease.  He has developed innovative approaches, like immediate breast reconstruction, skin sparing mastectomy, and nipple sparing mastectomy techniques and has been instrumental in the development of microsurgical breast reconstruction techniques designed to use the patient’s own tissue.   He was the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Saint Joseph’s Hospital for ten years, and taught on the subject of breast reconstruction for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.  In 1993, he was invited to become a member of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons in honor of his contributions to microsurgery techniques for breast reconstruction.

Passionately committed to the cause of breast cancer treatment, Dr. Beegle has been extensively involved with organizations that provide support for patients with breast cancer.  He has been a long-time sponsor for the Susan G. Komen® Race for the Cure, hosted their High Tea for Breast Care Survivors for over a decade, and was ultimately honored as the very first recipient of the Susan G. Komen® foundation’s physician’s recognition for breast care.  Dr. Beegle was also one of the driving forces behind the Atlanta Breast Surgery Symposium, which just celebrated its 30th year, and initially served as its chairman.  Today he serves on the board of the North Side Hospital Breast Cancer Committee and is part of the North Side Hospital Cancer Institute.

Still deeply committed to the continual evolution of reconstructive and aesthetic procedures of the breast in order to achieve better results that realize the patients’ expectations with fewer complications, Dr. Beegle continues to contribute to the understanding of breast reconstruction by conducting original research on the cause and prevention of capsular breast contracture and was one of the first surgeons to place breast implants behind the muscle in order to help minimize the contracture rate.

Board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Beegle serves Atlanta Plastic Surgery cosmetic and reconstructive surgery patients at their Atlanta and Newnan locations, and has hospital affiliations with Piedmont Newnan Hospital, Piedmont Fayette Hospital, Northside Hospital and Northside Sandy Springs Outpatient Surgery Center. He is also a co-owner of AYA Medical Spa at Phipps, Northside and Avalon locations.
