Plastic Surgery: What’s Stopping You?
No one is perfect, and almost everyone has, at some point, looked into the mirror and seen something they would like to perfect. Cosmetic plastic surgery has become an increasingly popular option for men and women around the world. However, even though plastic surgery procedures can do a great deal to improve an individual’s appearance and have been shown to bolster self-esteem and improve overall quality of life, some are still hesitant to take advantage of everything that plastic surgery has to offer. It is our hope, at Atlanta Plastic Surgery, that by addressing some of the most common reasons why people delay having plastic surgery we can help people take the first steps towards looking the way they have always wanted to look.
“Everyone will think I’m vain”
While once there may have been a negative stigma attached to plastic surgery, this is simply no longer the case. According to statistics published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of cosmetic procedures performed in the United States has risen steadily for the past five years, and is more than double the number performed in 2000. Even men, once resistant to the idea of plastic surgery, have been seeking out cosmetic enhancement in ever greater numbers. Some speculate that this trend is motivated by the aging population of “baby-boomers” seeking to remain competitive in an ever more appearance-conscious job market.
“I’m afraid it may not be safe.”
Although no surgery is entirely without risk, plastic surgery procedures performed in accredited surgical facilities by experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons have an excellent safety record. A survey based on more than 400,000 operations performed in accredited facilities found that the rate of serious complications was less than half of 1 percent, significantly lower than many other forms of surgery. Statistically speaking, you actually have a greater likelihood of suffering serious, long-term injury while driving to work each day than you do undergoing plastic surgery.
“I don’t have the time to spend weeks recuperating from surgery.”
One of the most popular techniques in cosmetic plastic surgery involve the use of minimally invasive facial rejuvenation treatments, like Botox® or dermal fillers, to temporarily alleviate the signs of facial aging. While these are medical procedures that are best performed by a skilled and experienced practitioner, they can often be completed in less than 30 minutes and require little or no surgical downtime. Patients could potentially have such a procedure completed during a lunch break and return to work immediately thereafter.
“I can’t afford it.”
In actuality, rising popularity, continual technical refinements, and advancements in technology have all worked together to make some plastic surgery procedures quite affordable. Even though many cosmetic plastic surgery procedures can represent a significant investment that will not be covered by insurance, Atlanta Plastic Surgery offers a number of different payment and financing options to assist our patients. We work closely with both CareCreditSM and Alphaeon®, who provide lines of credit designed specifically for medical payments that can be used on everything from cosmetic and reconstructive surgery to non-surgical anti-aging procedures.
