Anticipating the 32nd Annual Breast Surgery Symposium
This January, plastic surgeons from Atlanta Plastic Surgery, P.C. will be joining with Northside Hospital and The Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (SESPRS) to help host the 32nd Annual Breast Surgery Symposium. This illustrious event, which was attended by nearly 500 registrants from 15 different countries last year, has become internationally synonymous with innovations in reconstructive and cosmetic breast surgery since it was first established by Atlanta Plastic Surgery founder Dr. Carl Hartrampf more than 30 years ago. This year, two of the surgeons from Atlanta Plastic Surgery, P.C.: symposium co-chair James Namnoum, M.D. and emeritus chair L. Franklyn Elliott, M.D., will be integral parts of the three-day scientific program.
As always, the focus of this year’s program will be on procedures of the breast, with special attention on breast reconstruction, breast lifts (mastopexy), and breast reduction. Specific panels will discuss issues in oncoplastic surgery and breast reconstruction with the use of tissue expanders, breast implants, and various forms of autologous tissue flaps. Others will assess current trends and techniques in fat grafting to the breast, the use of acellular dermal matrix and new synthetic substitutes, and the use of shaped breast implants for breast augmentation and reconstruction. Finally, participants will also evaluate a variety of techniques used for the prevention and correction of complications in aesthetic breast surgery, including rippling and capsular contracture that may manifest after breast augmentation.
This year’s symposium will feature on-line streaming video that will allow live surgical demonstrations and lectures to be viewed in their entirety from the convenience of a home or office computer. Four live surgery telecasts are scheduled, featuring an oncoplastic breast reconstruction, a breast reduction, a mastopexy (or breast lift procedure), and a procedure to replace round implants with newer, shaped breast implants. Additionally, live questions can be emailed from around the world to Atlanta for immediate answers from the faculty directly over the Internet. The media may also set up interviews with the symposium’s chairpersons and faculty to learn more about featured content and technology discussed throughout the symposium.
