Plastic Surgery to Contour Your Midsection
With the holidays behind us and the New Year underway, many of us are resolved to finally get our bodies back into shape, but in many cases simply shedding excess pounds is not enough. As we grow older, our skin loses much of its youthful elasticity, and so burning away winter fat deposits can leave behind excess skin that hangs in loose, sagging folds, particularly around the midsection. Fortunately, even though plastic surgery is not in itself an effective way to lose weight, there are several different cosmetic plastic surgery procedures that can contour your midsection, providing the finishing touches that will help you look your best.
One of the most frustrating problems for people trying to lose weight is a condition known as diastasis recti. When the abdominal muscles are stretched out, either as a result of excess weight or pregnancy, they sometimes do not return to their original condition after the extra volume has been lost. This means that no matter how carefully you watch your diet, or how much exercise you do, there will most likely be a persistent “pooch” around the abdomen that never seems to go away. Moreover, since the muscles in the abdominal wall have been stretched thin, additional strain will have a greater likelihood of causing hernias. An abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck procedure, not only re-tightens the abdominal muscles, but also removes excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen to give the stomach a tighter, flatter, and thinner overall look.
Further contouring can also be accomplished through the strategic use of liposuction and advanced fat transfer techniques. Removing a small amount of isolated fat from specific, hard to reach locations can achieve extremely pleasing results. Moreover, fat transfer techniques, which work by taking the fat that has been removed via liposuction, purifying it, and then reinjecting it into desired areas, can add volume and definition to the breasts, buttocks, or even parts of the face to give the entire body a more aesthetically satisfying silhouette.
Less is often more where body-contouring plastic surgery procedures are concerned and even relatively minor changes, implemented by one of our experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons, can usually achieve exceptional plastic surgery results.
