Body Contouring in Time for the Holidays

The holiday season is finally here, and between lavish feasts at family get-togethers and resolutions for the coming New Year, many people often find themselves contemplating changes that they would like to make to their bodies.  Although there is really no substitute for adopting a healthy lifestyle with a sensible diet and regular exercise, almost everyone also has their own individual areas of concern where targeted plastic surgery procedures may be able to make a significant difference.  While most people tend to associate plastic surgery with alleviating the signs of aging or with augmenting the size of the breasts, there are also a number of procedures called body contouring techniques that are designed to sculpt and shape the torso, upper arms, chest, buttocks, and thighs.  Here are just a few of the most sought after body contouring plastic surgery procedures.

Body Contouring in Time for the Holidays

Slimming the Abdomen

Almost everyone would like to have a slimmer abdomen, but unfortunately diet and exercise may not be enough if pregnancy or fluctuations in weight have stretched and distorted the abdominal muscles, a condition known as diastasis recti.  Once this has occurred, the torso is unable return to its original shape, even after the weight is lost or the pregnancy is over.  An abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, re-tightens those abdominal muscles and trims away excess, sagging skin, giving the midsection a more tapered, aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Smoothing the Arms

Most people are painfully aware that skin and muscle can begin to lose their firmness and elasticity as the body ages.  This can be particularly evident in the upper arms, where sagging skin often forms what are commonly known as “bat-wings.”  An arm lift procedure, also known as a brachioplasty, involves the surgical removal of excess skin and fat from the area between the shoulders and the elbows.  This can effectively reshape the upper arms and make them appear more slender and defined.

Lifting the Buttocks

One area of the body that has attracted a great deal of attention in recent years is the buttocks.  Many patients express a desire for more projection and definition, and this can be accomplished through the use an extremely popular procedure called a Brazilian Butt Lift.  By using liposuction to remove excess fat from other areas of the body, like the flanks, torso, or thighs, and then re-injecting the purified fat calls into the buttocks, this fat transfer technique enhances the lift and projection of the buttocks and gives the entire body a more shapely and feminine silhouette.

It is important to emphasis that body contouring plastic surgery should never be used as a substitute for a healthy lifestyle or regular exercise and that they are not necessarily appropriate for every patient.  However, many patients have found that that these procedures can help them regain the physiques they might have lost.  The winter can be a great time to undergo plastic surgery, and we recommend that you consult with one of our board certified plastic surgeons to get a realistic idea of which procedures might benefit you.  If you are interested in learning more about any of the various body contouring procedures we offer, please contact Atlanta Plastic Surgery, P.C. at one of our Atlanta, Alpharetta, Cumming, or Newnan offices to schedule a consultation and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ for the latest plastic surgery news.
