QUESTION: As a woman in my early thirties, I have always had what people might call an “athletic” physique. Throughout high school and college I participated in several different team sports and I still work hard to keep myself in good shape. However, even though I have always been relatively satisfied with my overall appearance, at times, I wished that I had a somewhat “curvier” or “feminine” shape. I know that a getting a boob job could increase my breast size, but was curious whether there were any procedures that could do the same sort of thing for my butt. I also wanted to know whether I would be a good candidate for such a procedure.
ANSWER: Many women today are expressing interest in plastic surgery procedures that can help them achieve a more contoured, “hourglass-type” figure. One of the most popular of these is fat transfer, a technique that uses liposuction to remove fat from an area of the body where it is not wanted so that it can then be purified and injected into an area where additional volume is desired. During a Brazilian Butt Lift, for example, fat transfer is used to give the buttocks a more rounded and shapely appearance. In some cases, the same techniques can even be used to increase the size of the breasts in a procedure called fat transfer breast augmentation. Regardless of the area you would like to address, it is important to understand that fat transfer does require that the patient have excess fat deposits that they would like to eliminate, usually in the abdomen, flanks, or thighs. If you naturally have an extremely low amount of body fat, this procedure may not be right for you. However, there are many different techniques under the plastic surgery umbrella, so during a plastic surgery consultation we will likely be able to find an approach that will safely and effectively achieve the look you want.
There are many people who believe that they are not a suitable candidate for plastic surgery, or that it will not be able to achieve their specific goals. However, this is usually not the case, and most patients are surprised when they find out just how much plastic surgery can really do.
