Facial Rejuvenation Procedures for Every Age Group
No matter who you are, sooner or later you are going to have to deal with getting older. This is not a reality that people like to think about, which is why so many patients come to Atlanta Plastic Surgery, P.C. only after they first start to see the signs of facial aging. They don’t think that plastic surgery can do anything to address the issue until it is already well under way. However, this is not the case. There are actually a variety of different facial rejuvenation treatments and cosmetic plastic surgery procedures that can be used at each stage of life to help patients stay looking younger longer.
Twenties and Thirties: Prevention
Most people know that Botox® cosmetic injections can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and forehead. However, not many are aware that the same treatment can, when used in the early stages of the aging process, also help prevent those lines from forming in the first place. The fine lines and creases that we call “dynamic facial wrinkles” are caused by repeated movements from facial expressions that essentially fold and stretch the skin over and over again. By temporarily relaxing the muscles that are responsible for those facial movements, Botox® injections can “press pause” on the aging clock, potentially even delaying the point at which facial wrinkles become noticeable, depending of course on how naturally expressive you are.
Forties and Fifties: Preservation
One of the most significant causes of facial aging is the gradual loss of natural fat deposits, which give the face a soft, rounded, and youthful appearance. In the early stages, that lost facial volume can be effectively replaced using injectable facial fillers, like Juvéderm® or Restylane®, improving the sagging, “deflated” appearance and preserving the skin’s youthful fullness. Those interested in longer lasting results may even opt for fat transfer, a technique that removes excess fat from other areas of the patients own body using liposuction, purifies it, and then re-injects it into areas where additional volume is desired. The stem cells and growth factors that occur naturally in these fat cells may also, in some cases, even help rejuvenate the appearance of the skin by improving skin tone and elasticity.
Sixties and Up: Restoration
While the aging process may be slowed or even temporarily reversed, it cannot be permanently halted. Sooner or later we all reach the point when cosmetic plastic surgery procedures are needed to correct specific areas of concern. Still, modern plastic surgery techniques can help ensure that those results are as subtle and natural looking as possible. A mini-facelift, for example, focuses only on the mid-face region from the top of the cheek bones to the jaw line and so requires significantly less recovery and downtime. It can be an excellent way for active seniors to achieve comprehensive facial rejuvenation without a “stretched” or “wind-blown” look and can even be combined with other surgical or non-surgical facial rejuvenation techniques to achieve subtle but noticeable results.
The most important thing to remember when dealing with facial aging is that every face ages differently, so what works for one patient may not be recommended for another. Fortunately, the board certified plastic surgeons at Atlanta Plastic Surgery have years of experience performing a wide array of facial and body contouring plastic surgery procedures, so you can be sure that we can find the combination that is right for you.
