Plastic surgery is safer and more effective than ever before, and patients have an unprecedented amount of options when it comes to improving their appearance with cosmetic surgery. However, plastic surgery is a big commitment, and it isn’t the perfect aesthetic solution for everyone. If you’re considering cosmetic surgery but are uncertain about going through with it, don’t have the time or resources to support a period of surgical recovery, and/or simply want to try something that’s less involved but potentially just as effective, one of these non-surgical, minimally invasive cosmetic procedures might be right for you:
Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a special instrument to gently “sand” away one’s outer layer of skin. This outer layer tends to be thick and uneven, so removing it gives the skin a rejuvenated, smoother look. It’s an effective treatment for lessening the appearance of sun damage, stretch marks, light scarring or discoloration, age spots, blackheads, large pores, and even some fine lines. Microdermabrasion can make your complexion appear more refreshed and youthful by thickening collagen, a protein that becomes less abundant as we age.
CoolSculpting®, a non-surgical fat reduction procedure, uses a process called cryolipolysis to remove fat. This procedure reduces fat by cooling the area that you wish to slim down, freezing a portion of your fat cells so your body can naturally eliminate them. Because it involves no incisions, CoolSculpting® requires no downtime (although the results do take a couple of weeks to start manifesting and potentially three to six months to completely take effect).
At Atlanta Plastic Surgery, we offer several injectable treatments that are effective for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in the face. These treatments are generally temporary and can last anywhere from four months to over a year. Perhaps the best-known type of cosmetic injectable is Botox®, a product that temporarily regulates and relaxes the upper facial muscles, smoothing out crow’s feet, furrow lines, and other types of wrinkles & creases.
Another class of injectable called facial fillers are used to fill in lines (often on either side of the mouth or nose) or volumize the cheeks or lips with a natural or synthetic substance. Products such as JUVEDERM® and Restylane® are extremely effective at achieving a more youthful look, and there are many options when it comes to different types of facial fillers.
