Answering Common Questions About the Mommy Makeover
“Mommy makeover” is a term that many plastic surgery patients may be familiar with, without knowing exactly what it means. To put it simply, a mommy makeover is a combination procedure intended to help women address multiple areas of their appearance. All these areas undergo changes during and after pregnancy which is where the mommy makeover gets its name, although this surgery is also helpful for women who haven’t been pregnant. The procedure includes liposuction, a tummy tuck, and a cosmetic breast surgery of the patient’s choice (augmentation, reduction, or lift) to provide comprehensive and long-lasting body contouring results. Our expert plastic surgeons have taken some time to answer a few common questions that we receive about the mommy makeover.
How long after pregnancy should I wait to undergo a mommy makeover?
There is no set timetable, as everyone is different and some women may require more time to get back to normal following pregnancy. In general, we recommend waiting at least 6 months after giving birth in order to allow hormone levels to stabilize. It’s also important to note that future pregnancies can negatively affect the results of a mommy makeover and create the need for additional procedures to regain your initial results. This is why most women wait until after they’ve finished having kids before they get a mommy makeover.
Will undergoing multiple cosmetic procedures at once increase my recovery time following surgery?
No. In fact, the opposite is true. Combining these separate body contouring surgeries into a mommy makeover procedure can actually help patients reduce their overall recovery period. It can often be very beneficial to recover from these procedures simultaneously instead of undergoing three separate surgeries with three separate recovery periods.
What is the best age to undergo a mommy makeover?
There is no predetermined “right” age for a woman to undergo a mommy makeover. As long as the patient is mentally and physically healthy enough to undergo the procedure and experiences the aesthetic imperfections that a mommy makeover is designed to address, the procedure is appropriate for adult women of all ages. We will discuss in detail whether or not this approach is the right choice for your needs during the pre-surgery consultation appointment.
