For some people who lose a large amount of weight, the work needed to achieve the improved appearance they desire may not be complete. It’s common for loose, excess skin to persist after weight loss. This is why we perform post-bariatric (or post-weight loss) surgeries like the thigh lift to help patients put the finishing touches on their new physique. Thigh lift surgery is used to rejuvenate the appearance of the upper portion of the legs. However, it’s important for patients to know that there are different types of thigh lifts that may provide their own unique benefits.
Bilateral Thigh Lift
The most common type of thigh lift procedure for patients who have experienced considerable weight loss is the bilateral thigh lift. This technique, that focuses on the front and outer areas of the legs, typically produces the most extensive aesthetic results. During surgery, an incision is made at the top of the thigh, where the lower edge of a bikini bottom would be, and then a predetermined amount of skin is removed based on the patient’s needs. The remaining skin is then lifted and attached to the same area to effectively tighten the skin on both sides of the leg while improving the contours of the outer thigh.
Inner Thigh Lift
The inner thigh lift technique is specifically designed to address the inner thigh area. We often perform this method for patients who wish to reduce stubborn, diet-resistant fat and loose skin from the inner thigh. During the procedure, an incision is made at the junction of the thigh and pubic area. We are then able to remove skin and fat from the area. The inner thigh skin is then tightened to provide an improved leg contour and enhanced skin elasticity.
Medial Thigh Lift
The medial thigh lift technique can be used to treat the area above the inner thigh, closer to the area between the groin and hips. During medial thigh lift surgery, an incision is made alongside the pelvic area, back to the crease of the buttock. Once this is done, excess skin and fat can be removed in order to provide a more trim leg contour. In some cases, we may only use a minimal incision in the groin area to achieve the patient’s desired results.
