When is the Right Time to Undergo a Mommy Makeover?
During pregnancy, a woman’s body undergoes enormous amounts of physical change. While diet and exercise can help to rejuvenate a new mother’s appearance, extra help is often sought due to sagging skin, pockets of fat and loose abdominal muscles. Because of these concerns, the mommy makeover continues to gain in popularity for women who are unsatisfied with their appearance and are looking to reshape their body post-pregnancy. However, every woman’s body and situation is different and it’s important to take multiple factors into account when deciding when to undergo a mommy makeover procedure.
What is a Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover consists of a series of plastic surgery procedures that are designed to help rejuvenate and enhance a woman’s body after childbirth. Procedures such as a tummy tuck, liposuction, breast augmentation or breast lift are traditionally included in one combined surgery. Because every woman is affected by pregnancy differently, the combination of procedures that are best for their needs will be individually customized for their body.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?
If you are a healthy woman looking to improve the appearance of your body, you may be a good candidate for a mommy makeover. Since this surgical procedure focuses on your abdominal muscles, breasts and excess pockets of fat, it is important to only consider this surgery if those are your worries. If you are unhappy with other areas of your body, we offer a wide variety of other surgical options to help target your concerns. This is why scheduling an in-person consultation is so important.
Are You Ready for a Mommy Makeover?
There are a few questions you should ask yourself to help determine whether or not now is the right time for you to undergo a mommy makeover.
#1: When did you have your last child?
After childbirth, your body takes several months to return to its pre-pregnancy form. During this period, your body will be constantly healing and repairing itself, so it is not recommended to undergo any type of surgery. It is recommended that you maintain your goal weight and completely stop breastfeeding for at least six months prior to surgery.
#2: Currently, can you handle undergoing a recovery period?
A mommy makeover will require you to rest for several weeks. If you are the main caretaker and provider for a younger child, you should plan on having someone else watch your child during your recovery period.
#3: Are you planning on having any more children?
Since additional pregnancies will negatively impact, and even reverse, the results of your mommy makeover procedure, it is strongly suggested that you postpone any surgical procedures until you are certain that you are done having children.
