Prepare for Your Cosmetic Surgery for 2022 in a Healthy Way
At the beginning of a new year, many patients may have decided that this is the year they will have that cosmetic procedure they have been considering to improve their appearance. In order to have the best result, you should be in good health and in as good of shape as possible. Here are some tips to keep you healthy before your procedure.
Proper Rest
Getting a good night’s sleep is probably one of the best ways to stay healthy and ready for any surgical procedure. Since we spend one-third of our lives asleep, a proper night’s rest is critical to health and well-being. Some studies have shown that poor sleep is linked to weight gain, heart disease, and strokes.
So what are some of the ways to get that good night’s rest? Try to set a regular sleep pattern by going to bed at a set time every night. How much sleep one needs varies by individuals, but studies show that most adults 18 and over generally need 7 to 9 hours of sleep. You should avoid long naps in the afternoon and avoid strenuous exercise before bedtime.
A few things to help get you the best rest possible include limiting your consumption of caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine. These substances can interfere with falling asleep and with getting a good night’s sleep. Additionally, turning down the lights and avoiding looking at the TV screen, cell phone, or the computer before going to sleep is also beneficial to improving sleep.
Proper Diet
A proper diet can keep your weight in check and promote better health. Eating a nutritious, balanced diet means eating a proper mix of Fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and dairy. Following a general food pyramid from the USDA will help you determine the proper mix and portion amounts.
Proper Exercise
Experts recommend getting 30-45 minutes of exercise five times a week, but sometimes working exercise into your busy life can be challenging. Breaking up the longer workouts into mini workouts can be just as beneficial as the longer exercise periods. These mini workouts can be 10-15 minutes a day. Exercise is beneficial for both your mental and physical health, can help control diabetes, cholesterol, and weight gain. An exercise program should include both cardiovascular such as walking, bicycling, or even playing a sport and exercises using weights in some manner such as handheld weights, exercise bands, or weight machines.
Physical Checkup
An annual physical checkup is an extremely important part of a healthy lifestyle to prevent, find and treat problems before or at the start before they become worse. An annual physical can check for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood sugar, and other issues. Medical experts recommend that patients in their 20s and 30s get an annual checkup every two years but recommend those patients over 40 should get a checkup every year. Getting regular checkups allows you to form a relationship with your doctor who will become familiar with your medical history.
