What About Post-Massive Weight Loss Surgery?
Many folks will lose weight either by diet and exercise or, following bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery is a surgery that reduces the size of the stomach. However, after weight loss, sometimes more than 100 pounds, a patient may want to get the loose skin that is left behind removed, especially in the abdomen, arms, legs, and even the face. Post-weight loss cosmetic surgery can be one solution to this issue.
What are some reasons for having post-weight loss surgery?
After losing a considerable amount of weight, most people are left behind with a tremendous amount of skin, leaving them feeling a bit more self-conscious than they should after such an accomplishment. Post-weight loss surgery can remove loose skin, reposition tissue and improve the shape and tone of a specific area such as your entire midsection.
What are some of the more common weight loss procedures?
Some of the more common plastic surgery procedures following weight loss are a body lift, tummy tuck, breast lift, thigh lift, and arm lift. These procedures involve removing the excess, sagging skin and then lifting and tightening the specific area. Liposuction may also be used to remove excess fat (if needed) and improve the body shape.
How long does it take to recover from post-weight loss surgery?
Recovery depends on the individual patient and the particular procedure(s) performed. The more involved the procedure the longer the recovery period. For example, you should expect 2-4 weeks of recovery and to refrain from strenuous exercise and lifting in the case of a tummy tuck. Recovery time also depends on your overall health and attitude before surgery. You should be in general good health, a non-smoker, and have a positive attitude about your goals. Always follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions and attend all follow-up appointments.
