For anyone considering body contouring surgery, there is more to the process than simply choosing to undergo a cosmetic procedure and enjoying the results afterwards. Body contouring can take many forms, including liposuction to remove unwanted fat, tummy tuck surgery to trim the abdomen, or breast surgery to enhance the breast contour. But regardless of which body contouring procedure (or procedures) you are interested in, pre-surgery preparation will be critical. Today, the expert plastic surgeons here at Atlanta Plastic Surgery wanted to provide a few helpful tips to assist anyone preparing for an upcoming body contouring procedure.
Reach & Maintain Your Goal Weight
We’ve said this many times over the years, but it often bears repeating: body contouring is NOT weight loss surgery. In many cases, body contouring procedures like a tummy tuck, arm lift, or liposuction are used after pregnancy or losing weight. Body lifts or thigh lifts are used after someone loses a considerable amount of weight to help put the finishing touches on their new appearance. Considerable weight loss is not a result that patients should expect from body contouring procedures and in order to maintain results, they will need to continue with regular activity and a healthy diet.
Fully Prepare Your Recovery Space
Post-surgery recovery is always an important factor to consider, and providing yourself with a comfortable recovery space is essential to this process. Discuss what you’ll need at your pre-surgery consultation and make sure to have compression garments, medications, and other essential supplies on-hand. We’ll let you know if special sleeping arrangements or other circumstances will need to be considered in order to promote your healing and comfort during recovery.
Take Note of Your Daily Routine
While recovery is often fairly straightforward following most body contouring procedures, some downtime will be required. It’s important to take note of your normal daily tasks and make sure everything is accounted for in the days following your surgery. We recommend making a list of your daily tasks and discussing what you will and will not be able to get done in the time soon after your procedure. And then make the necessary arrangements.
