How Can Plastic Surgery Help Shape My Waist?
Body contouring surgeries are often versatile and able to help patients interested in addressing a wide range of areas. Today however, we wanted to focus on one specific spot that can be quite a nuisance for many plastic surgery patients: the waist. We’ve probably all heard someone mention the idea of removing a few inches from their waistline. However, this is easier said than done with healthy eating and exercise alone. Today, our board-certified plastic surgeons wanted to discuss how body contouring surgery can be used to rejuvenate the waist area.
In addition to poor eating habits and a lack of regular exercise, some factors that lead to excess fat around the waist can be out of a person’s control. Regardless of the cause, waist liposuction can be extremely beneficial. This procedure involves making a series of very small incisions and then inserting a tiny hollow tube, called a cannula. Excess fat from the waist area is then carefully suctioned through the cannula, using our specialized techniques, leading to a more trim and shapely waistline.
For some people, loose, stretched skin in the abdominal area is a more pressing concern than excess fat. In these cases, tummy tuck surgery may be a more practical solution. The procedure is performed to help safely remove excess skin from the abdominal area (as well as fat and tissue as needed, leading to a healthier-looking physique and a reduced waist. A tummy tuck is also performed to repair damaged or separated muscles in the abdomen that can cause the appearance of a “belly pooch.”
For some patients, the most helpful approach to waist rejuvenation may be combining liposuction with a tummy tuck as part of a mommy makeover procedure. Sometimes paired with a cosmetic breast procedure, mommy makeover is designed to provide comprehensive body contouring to the waist area and beyond. However, this combined approach may not be right for every patient.
