Ask The Atlanta Plastic Surgery Experts: Body Contouring Surgery
Body contouring is a wide-ranging term that can mean different things to different people. But one thing that all body contouring patients have in common is a desire to improve some aspect of their appearance by removing unwanted skin and fat, as well as repositioning tissue if needed. Body contouring surgery is unique in its ability to provide aesthetic rejuvenation to larger areas and provide more comprehensive change to the appearance. No matter the reason for a specific patient’s interest, undergoing a body contouring procedure can help turn back the clock and help people look younger and feel more vital. Because there is such a wide variety of questions on the subject, our board-certified plastic surgeons have taken some time to answer common questions on some of the body contouring procedures that we offer.
Question #1: Is Body Contouring Surgery Only For Older Patients?
No. While it’s true that many body contouring surgeries can be used as a way to achieve anti-aging results for patients who wish to look younger, there are other reasons to consider these procedures. Everyone ages differently and some people may experience premature signs of aging long before they reach their 40’s or 50’s. Additionally, body contouring is often used as a way to help patients who experience loose skin after considerable weight loss, regardless at which age this weight loss occurred. As long as the patient is an adult in good health and deemed a good candidate to safely undergo their procedure, there is no age minimum for body contouring surgery.
Question #2: Is It Possible To Undergo a Facial Procedure Like a Facelift at the Same Time as a Body Contouring Procedure?
It is technically possible to undergo a facelift and a body contouring procedure like liposuction as one combined procedure, but this is not very common. In most cases, plastic surgery combinations typically involve multiple body contouring surgeries (like a mommy makeover procedure) or multiple facial procedures like combining a facelift with eyelid surgery. However, every case is different and this is something that we would discuss at length during the pre-surgery consultation appointment.
Question #3: Do Non-Surgical Body Contouring Treatments Work?
Certain non-surgical treatments may claim to offer “body contouring” caliber results, but this is a bar that is rarely met. Some non-surgical fat reduction or skin tightening treatments absolutely can be effective, but patients shouldn’t go into them expecting the same kind of results that can be achieved with liposuction, tummy tuck surgery, or other surgical body contouring procedures.
