True or False: Getting To Know Facelift Surgery
The facelift has been around about as long as the concept of plastic surgery itself. And still, there is so much that patients interested in the procedure may not actually understand about it and what it can do. Here at Atlanta Plastic Surgery, our board-certified plastic surgeons have many years of experience, as we have been established for over 50 years. Our experience includes not just performing facelift surgery, but educating our patients on its benefits and the different ways that it can be performed. Which is why we wanted to set the record straight on a few true or false statements about the facelift.
Facelift Surgery Is Only Used to Address The Lower Portion of The Face
This is true. Although each of our plastic surgeons have their own techniques, when performing facelift surgery we primarily focus on the areas around and below the nose. This can include around the mouth, the cheeks, the jawline, and even the neck. While these results can be fantastic and quite comprehensive, patients will have to look into other procedures like eyelid surgery, brow lift, or cosmetic injectable treatments if they want to address signs of aging in the areas around the eyes, their eye brows, or forehead.
Facelift Surgery Is Only Intended for Female Patients
This is false. While it may not be as popular with male patients as eyelid surgery or rhinoplasty, facelift surgery can absolutely be incredibly helpful for men who wish to rejuvenate the appearance of their face and look as young as they once did. Male facelift surgery involves using specialized techniques to improve cosmetic issues like wrinkles and sagging skin, while maintaining the masculine features of the face.
Facelift Results Are Intended To Be Long-Lasting
This is absolutely true. While there is no such thing as “forever” and there’s nothing that we can do to stop natural aging in the years after your surgery, facelift results are often very long-lasting. As long as your procedure is performed by an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon, the results achieved will look good now and age gracefully over time, helping you look considerably younger as the years go on. There are also things you can do to help prolong your results over time including maintaining a healthy, stable body weight and avoiding excessive sun exposure that can damage your facial skin.
In our experience, the better informed and educated that a patient is on their way into plastic surgery, the happier they will ultimately be with their results and overall experience.
