Current Body Contouring Statistics & What They Mean for Our Patients

Despite an economic environment that some might consider shaky, it’s a fact that plastic surgery is back on the rise again. That’s been our experience here at Atlanta Plastic Surgery, and it is the major takeaway from the recent annual statistics collected by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Today, our board-certified plastic surgeons wanted to look specifically at the body contouring statistics found within this report, and discuss what these trends mean for our patients interested in rejuvenating some aspect of their physique with plastic surgery.

• Overall, the number of body contouring surgeries performed in 2023 rose nearly 6%, from 566,052 to 599,862.
• Not including breast surgery, the three most common body contouring surgeries performed were liposuction (347,782), tummy tuck surgery (170,110), and the Brazilian butt lift (29,383).
• Every single procedure on the list increased in frequency compared to the year before, with arm lift surgery making the biggest one year jump (up 8%).
• Body contouring procedures for men rose 10% overall, slightly outpacing the increase for women. The most popular of which being toning procedures for the chest and core, specifically liposuction.
• The southeast accounted for 35% of all liposuction procedures, the most of any region by far.

We’re obviously extremely encouraged to see more patients than ever turning to body contouring surgery in order to help them look and feel their best. It’s been great to see men and women of all ages becoming more comfortable with the idea of plastic surgery, as social stigmas from the past have faded away. People are prioritizing their well-being and aesthetic goals, and we’re more than happy to be able to help them do so.
