Knowing if arm lift surgery is right for you starts by understanding exactly what the procedure does. Although each of our board-certified plastic surgeons have developed their own technique for arm lift surgery, most procedures will begin by making an incision underneath the back of the arm, beginning at the armpit and extending down toward the elbow. We then remove excess skin from the underarm that has become stretched out over time. We may use liposuction to remove excess fat from the area as needed. The result is a more lean and trim arm contour that will last for many years.

In order to be considered a good fit for arm lift surgery, prospective candidates should check the following boxes:

• Experience skin laxity (looseness) in their upper arm area
• Must be at or near their ideal body weight, and not expect significant weight loss from their arm lift
• Must be in good enough mental and physical health to safely undergo and recover from their procedure
• Must not smoke or use any other form of nicotine
• Should maintain realistic expectations and a positive outlook in regard to their arm lift

For some people who wish to recontour their arms, an arm lift may not be required. In some cases, liposuction of the upper arms may be all that is needed to achieve the rejuvenation that they desire.
