3 Must-Know Facts About Breast Lift Surgery

Fact #1: A Breast Lift Will Not Reduce The Size of Your Breasts
In our experience, it’s common for patients to have a hard time differentiating between a breast lift and breast reduction surgery. We often tell our patients that breast lift surgery is more about adjusting the positioning, shape, and perkiness of the breasts, and not so much about the size. Some excess skin will be removed from the breast area during the procedure, but the resulting decrease in breast size or volume is typically marginal and not a result that patients should count on.
Fact #2: Breast Lifts Are Commonly Paired With Other Cosmetic Procedures
While this is not always the case and many people do undergo breast lift procedures on their own, it is quite common to pair breast lift surgery with additional cosmetic surgery procedures. For instance, many women who undergo breast augmentation surgery (breast enhancement) will also undergo a breast lift at the same time to ensure the best possible positioning for their new breasts. It is also quite common to pair breast reduction surgery with a breast lift. A breast lift is also often used as a component of mommy makeover surgery.
Fact #3: A Breast Lift Can Help Relieve Uneven Breasts
We have extensive experience performing breast lift to help women with uneven or asymmetrical breasts. There are different procedures that can help achieve a more symmetrical breast contour, but a breast lift does so by repositioning tissue to its natural position and removing enough excess skin from the breast area in both breasts to help the patient achieve the result that they desire. In some cases, a breast lift can be performed on just one breast if we feel that will be the most helpful course of action.

Can Eyelid Surgery Help Men Look Younger?
Plastic surgery for men extends far beyond just body contouring procedures like liposuction and gynecomastia surgery. In fact, certain cosmetic surgery procedures for the face have become very popular with male patients in recent years. None more so than eyelid surgery. Male eyelid surgery provides men of all ages with a tried and true way to turn back the clock and shave years off of their appearance. Today, our board-certified plastic surgeons wanted to discuss specifically how eyelid surgery can help men look younger and more refreshed.
We thought it would be informative to begin with some statistics to demonstrate just how common eyelid surgery for men has become. These stats were collected by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). According to the numbers, over 15,000 men underwent eyelid surgery procedures last year alone in the US. That marked a 12% increase from the previous year. Eyelid surgery was the third most common plastic surgery procedure for men, behind just liposuction and male breast reduction to treat gynecomastia.
Common issues that can make a man look significantly older than his age include loose skin on the upper eyelids, bags under the eyes, and fat deposits that can make the eyelids look puffy or inflamed. Eyelid surgery can help by removing excess skin and fat and recontouring the eyelids. The result is a more rested and youthful appearance, that is subtle but powerful.
For any men who are concerned about looking too feminine after undergoing eyelid surgery, we always reassure our patients that this will not be the case. FAQs: Understanding Breast Reconstruction After Breast Cancer
Because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it seemed like an appropriate time to discuss the options that women have available to restore their breasts following breast cancer surgery. Here at Atlanta Plastic Surgery, our board-certified plastic surgeons have decades of combined experience performing breast reconstruction surgery. Our experts use breast reconstruction to help recreate the natural shape and symmetry of the breasts following either a mastectomy (total removal of the breast or breasts) or a lumpectomy (partial removal). To further reinforce the power that this incredible procedure can have, we wanted to answer a few common questions about breast reconstruction and its benefits.
Question #1: What Is The Best Timing for Breast Reconstruction Surgery?
This ultimately depends on the specific circumstances and preferences of each woman. Breast reconstruction is often performed at the same time as a mastectomy. This is known as immediate breast reconstruction. However, this approach is not always right for everyone and breast reconstruction can be performed later on. This is known as delayed breast reconstruction. Some women may need a delayed reconstruction depending on their physical exam, certain risk factors, or additional breast cancer treatments that may be needed after surgery. In cases where a patient isn’t sure that they want to undergo breast reconstruction at the time of their breast cancer surgery, but decide to have it later on, this can be done.
Question #2: How Will My Breasts Feel After Breast Reconstruction?
This can depend on which type of breast reconstruction procedure that you undergo. Some women use breast implants as part of their breast reconstruction. Others use natural tissue from other areas of the body (autologous breast reconstruction). In all cases, the goal is to create a new breast contour that looks and feels as natural as the patient’s original breast or breasts, but there are subtle differences for each that we will discuss at the initial consultation appointment before surgery.
Question #3: Is Breast Reconstruction Always Needed After Breast Cancer Surgery?
It is not. The choice to undergo breast reconstruction or not is a very personal one that is unique to every woman. Women can absolutely choose not to have breast reconstruction and to simply begin their transition into life after cancer once their mastectomy is completed. Some people use the term “going flat” to describe the new chest contour following breast cancer surgery. It’s simply a matter of personal preference.
