Atlanta Plastic Surgery provides two different lasers for hair removal treatment, the Sciton® BroadBand Light™ Laser and the Candela System. Laser hair removal provides long lasting hair reduction results for patients of various skin types with minimal to no downtime.
Lasers use light and electric pulses to heat the hair follicle and destroy its root leaving surrounding skin or tissue unaffected. As the light energy passes through the skin, it addresses multiple follicles for more efficient treatment. However, since each hair has its own growth cycle, additional treatments are required to address each hair during its anagen stage, or growing phase when it is most vulnerable to light energy.
Sciton® BroadBand Light™
The Sciton® BroadBand Light™ (BBL) system uses photothermal energy to heat hair follicles. Wavelengths can be tailored to each patient depending on their skin type and the amount of hair to be removed. In addition to unwanted hair, BBL™ also treats acne, scars, and pigmented lesions since the photothermal energy induces collagen production.
Patients typically require treatments spaced 4-8 weeks apart to achieve optimal results. With hardly any downtime, patients can return to normal activity after the procedure.
The Candela System
The Candela system features the GentleMAX™ laser, which emits a gentle beam of light that produces heat to be absorbed in the targeted areas without affecting surrounding skin. The Candela system minimizes discomfort using their built-in Dynamic Cooling Device™ where cryogen is sprayed onto the skin, cooling the upper layers and providing patients with increased safety and comfort.
Treatments are done every 4 weeks for a total of 8 treatments for facial hair, and every 6 weeks for a total of 8 treatments for larger areas of unwanted hair on the body. Candela’s GentleMAX™ is safe for most skin types and provides expedited treatment time without downtime.
