Mommy Makeover FAQs

What is Mommy Makeover surgery?
Mommy Makeover surgery, or plastic surgery after pregnancy, is an individualized combination of surgical procedures that are meant to restore a woman’s body to how it was before pregnancy and childbirth. Whether you’ve just had children, or your kids are older, mommy makeover surgery can help lift and enhance breasts they may be drooping as a result of breast feeding, tighten the muscle and tissue of the abdomen that may be stretched during pregnancy, and/or treat pockets of unwanted fat that stick around long after you have had a baby. Depending on your individual cosmetic goals, Mommy Makeover surgery can include a cosmetic breast procedure, liposuction, and tummy tuck surgeries to shape the waist and tighten abdominal muscles.

Am I a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

While motherhood is a rewarding life experience, pregnancy and childbirth can take a toll on the female body. Ideal candidates for mommy makeover surgery are women whose bodies may have changed size and shape due to the results of pregnancy and childbirth. When a healthy diet and exercise routine do not produce the results a woman is looking to achieve, mommy makeover surgery can help her reach her cosmetic goals. Women with sagging or deflated breasts, excess skin and/or stretched abdominal muscles, and/or pockets of unwanted fat may be candidates for Atlanta Mommy Makeover surgery with Dr. Allyson Maske.

What can I expect after Mommy Makeover surgery?
Depending on which procedures your Mommy Makeover includes, full recovery can take up to six weeks. Most patients are able to return to work within two to three weeks and resume normal activities, including exercise, after the six-week recovery period. Immediately after surgery, you may feel groggy as the anesthesia wears off. Depending on the extent of your surgery, it may also be recommended that you stay in the hospital for around 23 hours. After that, we recommend you have reliable transportation as well as a dependable caregiver to stay with you and help you in case of emergency for the 48 after your release.

A week after surgery you should avoid most physical activity, picking things up off the ground or lifting above your head, and/or any stressful events or activities. Up to two weeks after surgery, you should avoid strenuous activity like heavy lifting or running and can begin returning to daily tasks. It is important to wear the recommended supportive garments and maintain a reasonable follow-up schedule so Dr. Maske can ensure you are healing correctly.

When is the right time for a Mommy Makeover?
While you can still have children after Mommy Makeover surgery, it is advised that women wait until their family is complete to undergo plastic surgery after pregnancy. Because the body changes so much during pregnancy and childbirth, pregnancy after Mommy Makeover can reverse the effects of surgery.
