Fat grafting has revolutionized breast augmentation surgery. Fat is harvesting using traditional liposuction techniques. This fat is then transferred to the breasts to provide improved shape and volume. Fat grafting alone can be used to augment the breasts. There are also “composite” techniques, which combine both fat transfer and an implant. I will often combine these two techniques because the addition of fat grafting can camouflage an implant and help to provide a more natural look and feel while still maximizing the advantages of implant-based augmentation.

Saline breast implants consist of a sterilized salt-water solution encased in a silicone shell. Silicone implants come in a predetermined shape & size and are made entirely of the artificial polymer they are named after. My feeling is that silicone implants mimic the consistency of human tissue better than saline implants and therefore have a more natural look & feel. While there has been some concern over the safety of silicone breast implants in the past, extensive research by the FDA has significantly diminished these concerns.
