Mommy Makeover at Atlanta Plastic Surgery, P.C.
Performed at our Atlanta, Alpharetta, Cumming and Newnan, GA locations.
Mommy makeover surgery can be described as a series or combination of cosmetic procedures to reshape and enhance the body, post-maternity. After the effects of pregnancy, procedures of the breast and body can help a woman to get back the body she once had.
Candidates for a mommy makeover include women who are unhappy with the look of their body after the effects of pregnancy and breast feeding. It is recommended for women who do not plan to have additional children; as an additional pregnancy can reverse what was corrected during a mommy makeover.
Most mommy makeovers include a body reshaping procedure – a tummy tuck (also known as an abdominoplasty) or liposuction of problem areas. Depending on the size of the breasts after breast feeding, mommy makeovers typically also include a breast reduction, breast lift, or breast enhancement (breast implant) procedure.
The goal of a mommy makeover is to help women to reclaim the look of her body before the effects of pregnancy. Because each patient is different, and has been affected by pregnancy in different ways, any combination of these procedures (or additional procedures) may be recommended as part of the mommy makeover.
Why is it best to have these procedures done all at one time instead of individually?
Every surgical procedure requires a period of recovery, and while undergoing two or three different procedures at the same time does not mean that you will heal any faster, it does mean that you will only have to go through the healing process once, rather than two or three separate times. A tummy tuck or breast lift procedure can each require 7-10 days before you can comfortably return to even light work, much less get back to a regular exercise regimen or more intense physical labor. Combining procedures can reduce the overall amount of time that you will spend out of commission and allow you to get back to your regular activities with less interruption.
How long do I have to wait after my pregnancy before getting a mommy makeover?
After the birth of a child, it may take several months for your body to return to its pre-pregnancy form. The abdomen and breasts will have undergone significant changes and the body will require time before it has fully returned to its pre-pregnancy state. Undergoing any form of plastic surgery while the body is in the process of growing or healing is not recommended. In order to ensure that you have a long-lasting result, you should be at your goal weight for at least six months and have stopped breast-feeding for six months before undergoing a mommy makeover. We also recommend that patients wait until after they are finished having children before considering a mommy makeover. The changes that a body undergoes during pregnancy, even years after the procedure, can compromise your plastic surgery results, potentially causing the return of unwanted fat, excess skin, or other aesthetic concerns. Patients who wait until they are finished having children and nursing will have longer-lasting results.
Can I have a mommy makeover even if I’m not a mom?
A mommy makeover is really simply a term used to describe a combination of procedures that address significant changes in multiple areas of the body. Women, or even men, can experience similar changes as a result of significant weight loss or even the gradual effects of age. There are many benefits to performing related cosmetic surgery procedures during the same surgical session, and combination procedures that are specifically tailored to individual areas of concern, like a body lift, can potentially aid patients of any age or gender to achieve the look they have always wanted.
